Cleaners, coatings, adhesives, fuels and other materials each present unique hazards. Help keep your crew informed and protected by following these chemical safety practices:
1. Review the Label and Safety Data Sheet
Before using any chemical, check the product label and safety data sheet to understand its hazards, required precautions and emergency procedures.
2. Wear the Right PPE
Use the gloves, goggles, respirators and protective clothing recommended for the task. The correct PPE can help prevent burns, inhalation and other harmful exposure.
3. Store Chemicals Properly
Keep containers sealed, clearly labeled and stored in designated areas. Never transfer chemicals into unmarked containers.
4. Never Mix Chemicals Without Authorization
Mixing incompatible materials can create dangerous reactions. Only combine chemicals when you are trained and authorized to do so.
5. Report Spills and Exposure Immediately
Quick action can prevent a small incident from becoming a serious hazard. Follow site procedures and notify a supervisor right away.
